Foursquare ITP led this study to evaluate service and develop several scenarios for improving service in this sub-area of Fairfax County. The area has 32 routes and the recommendations were timed for implementation upon the opening of the Silver Line Metrorail Phase 2, anticipated for early 2022. Work on this project included route analysis, market assessment, and development of a gap analysis for existing service – geographic, temporal, and level of service. Foursquare ITP also developed several possible alternative scenarios for review and evaluation through a robust public involvement process. The final scenario was developed based on public input, with the creation of a cost neutral and higher cost version of the plan, and an assessment of facility capacity for transfer from the bus network to the rail network.
