Wylie’s passion is furthering high-quality, sustainable transportation through rigorous analysis and collaboration with local communities.

Wylie Timmerman is a data science manager and the technical lead of Foursquare ITP’s data science team. As an experienced data scientist, planner, and programmer, his expertise is put into use across a variety of practice areas at Foursquare ITP. His recent work includes the WMATA Customer Segmentation project, which illustrated how major events shifted travel patterns on DC’s Metrobus and Metrorail; his work for this project was recognized at the 2023 Transit Data Challenge, winning the “People’s Choice” award. He has also led teams for WMATA building data pipelines for second-by-second vehicle location data and for modeling of fare policy impacts on detailed, transaction level data. For Foursquare ITP’s data science team, Wylie leads the creation of interactive transit planning applications, trains other planners in programming practices, and develops new approaches for processing and modeling GTFS and other intelligent transportation system (ITS) data. This work includes development of Reflect, Foursquare ITP’s Schedule & GTFS QA/QC app, as well as the company’s Transit Propensity application and Origin-Destination Survey Trip Chain Validator. He also leads projects involving the modeling of transit ridership, BRT speeds, and job accessibility.
