The Promising Practices Guide is a practice-oriented, graphic-intensive, quick reference document that highlights a diverse array of successful examples where technological approaches are used in creative and innovative ways that show promise for successful adoption or replication among rural, small-urban and tribal providers of public transportation. The Guide focuses on technology planning and implementation through the lens of promising practices that provide fertile ground for success. Practices profiled range from innovations in vehicle location and dispatching technologies that are “light” in nature and feasible for implementation in non-urban environments, to the implementation of technology-enabled demand response services in place of traditional fixed-route services in small urban environments, to the use of waste oil from restaurants for fuel in a tribal transit system. Ten promising practices were profiled, highlighting the context around the practice adoption, the needed resources, and the results lessons learned.
