Foursquare ITP led a multi-faceted public and stakeholder outreach program to share information and solicit input on 25 percent design of the MD 355 BRT. Montgomery County DOT was seeking support to deliver an innovative and inclusive public engagement effort to gather public input on its proposal for BRT service on MD 355. A challenging aspect of this task was the technical nature of the materials on which public input was sought.

Foursquare ITP led a team that conducted thirteen pop-up events, four virtual Q&A sessions, nine telephone office hour sessions, a survey, distribution of yard signs along the corridor, and digital marketing to ensure a diverse sample of the county’s population had an opportunity to provide input.

In addition to large participation, the survey sample was highly representative of the county’s population in terms of race, income, and disability status. The project team received over 800 survey responses and nearly 100,000 impressions on social media.

Solutions and Outcomes
  • Developed a robust, multimedia and multi-opportunity public and stakeholder engagement program for this second BRT corridor in the County.
