This project helped Capital Metro (CapMetro) develop a community-driven long-term vision for their MetroBike program. In 2024, Austin’s bikeshare program went through a major transition as CapMetro partnered with a new equipment vendor and carried out a wholesale replacement and relaunch of the program. With these major changes underway, the agency engaged Foursquare ITP to help them develop a long-term expansion plan rooted in strong community engagement.
Foursquare ITP worked closely with MetroBike’s operational team to establish a 10-year incremental growth plan for the program that considered both the rapid changes occurring in Austin and the operational needs of MetroBike and CapMetro at large. The project included a large community engagement effort that relied on community connectors (local community members who were compensated for their time and support) to help MetroBike connect with populations that would not typically consider riding bikeshare.
The plan will help CapMetro prepare for MetroBike’s future needs and ensure the system is on the path for long-term success.
