Marc is fascinated with urban design and particularly enjoys creating concepts of transit corridors, transit facilities, transit-oriented development, and streetscaping. Marc approaches every such concept as an intriguing 3D puzzle, a perspective that no doubt came from many happy hours spent in SimCity when Marc was younger! Marc also enjoys freehand architectural sketching and drawing, and can sometimes be found wandering around Philadelphia with a sketchpad.
Marc Szarkowski engages in transportation planning and urban design at Foursquare ITP, including transit route planning and costing; transit corridor planning; station, stop, and facility design; and both stylized and GIS mapping. Marc creates 3D models and illustrations, visualizations and renderings, maps and infographics, and various other graphics. Marc’s key projects at Foursquare ITP include bus stop and station concepts for SORTA in Cincinnati, a transit-oriented development (TOD) master plan for the Amtrak station in Lancaster, PA, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s (JTA) Reimagine bus network redesign, and the MTA Interborough Express (IBX) corridor study. Prior to joining Foursquare ITP, Marc was an embedded transportation planner at the Maryland Transit Administration where he worked on numerous transit and urban design projects, most notably the 2017 BaltimoreLink bus network redesign.
