The Innovation Park area of Prince William County is projected to add thousands of new residents in coming decades. Foursquare ITP’s Shuttle Service Feasibility Study presented a phased approach to transit service implementation that will support the area’s growth. Although Innovation Park currently has approximately 700 residents, the Small Area Plan adopted by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in 2020 envisions up to 4,000 homes and 38,000 jobs through a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented town center offering student housing, office space, and recreational and commercial areas surrounding George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus. This feasibility study presented a phased approach to transit implementation that introduces new service, and new service types, to support the planning initiatives presented in the Small Area Plan and to complement the anticipated growth and development of the Innovation Park area. Key recommendations include an app-based microtransit pilot program, an autonomous vehicle shuttle linking the GMU Science and Technology Campus with the planned Innovation Park Town Center, and eventual fixed-route service from the Broad Run VRE station to GMU and the town center.
