The Greater Hartford Transit District (GHTD), Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG), and other local partners collaborated with Foursquare ITP to explore bike share as a strategy to improve mobility, and enhance first/last mile connections to the area’s new transit infrastructure, the CTfastrak Bus Rapid Transit and the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Rail Corridor. Hartford has one of the highest rates of zero-car households in the United States, which presents a unique opportunity for bike share to enhance mobility for thousands of residents. Our market feasibility study identified and assessed eleven potential sub-markets for bike share in urban and suburban communities across two counties. We developed an action-oriented implementation plan and business plan to serve as a step-by-step guide to making bike share a reality in the Metro Hartford Region.
