Foursquare ITP worked with the Greater Hartford Transit District (GHTD), the Capital Regional Council of Governments (CRCOG) and other partners in the Greater Hartford Region to develop a bike share feasibility study and business plan. The region underwent over one billion dollars in transit investments, including the CTfastrak bus rapid transit (BRT) system and the upgraded New Haven-Hartford-Springfield rail corridor. Local partners first became interested in exploring bike share as a way to provide last mile connections to CTfastrak and rail. Because of the extensive scope of these transit investments, the plan looked at a region spanning two counties and over 750 square miles to determine how bike share could fit into the local context. As Hartford has one of the highest rates of zero-car households in the nation, bike share provides a unique opportunity to significantly enhance mobility for thousands of residents.
