Foursquare ITP developed the service plan for the newest DC Circulator route, the National Mall Circulator that provides connections to Union Station and major attractions along the iconic space. We worked with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and other key stakeholders, including the National Park Service and the Smithsonian, to develop a service plan, ridership estimates, stop concept designs, operating parameters including staffing levels and cost estimates, and other implementation-ready plans. The route began service in June 2015, one year after the plan was completed.
Our work included the development of the route structure and stop locations along with detailed timing and vehicle requirement needs. Foursquare ITP developed stop concept designs that provided DDOT with existing stop area dimensions and modifications that would need to be made to the sidewalk, curb use, and street to provide access for the bus and for passengers boarding and alighting. Due to the many events held in and around the National Mall, the service plan includes alternative routings for various street closure scenarios.
