Foursquare ITP led this two-part study that looked at bus shelter conditions at 33 Metrorail stations and vehicle, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian circulation at five Metrorail stations. The purpose of this study was to prioritize the replacement of bus shelters at Metrorail stations and to recommend access and circulation improvements at stations where a significant number of complaints had been logged. The evaluation of access and circulation at the five Metrorail stations was conducted through site visits to each station and interviews with station managers, bus operations managers and WMATA bus planning staff. Our improvement recommendations included relocating bus bays and platforms, additional traffic control signage, new fencing, additional traffic control markings and improvements to curb ramps to meet ADA guidelines.
