Foursquare Integrated Transportation Planning, Inc. (Foursquare ITP) is always looking for qualified Transportation Planner Interns (paid or for school credit) to contribute to a diverse array of transportation planning studies. Foursquare ITP is a transportation planning firm headquartered in Rockville, Maryland right across the street from a Metrorail station. We have two satellite offices in Boston, MA and Philadelphia, PA, and internships can be at any of these locations. We are open to part-time and full-time interns.

As a small firm we are able to give our clients the personalized focus that they seek and deserve. We offer our clients expertise in transit service planning and operations, transit facilities and multimodal access, regional and statewide planning, corridor planning, TDM, multimodal and shared mobility planning, and bike share and bike/ped planning, among others. If you are selected, you will work as part of a team, taking direction from multiple project managers, and will be responsible for research, data analysis, GIS, field work, and meeting participation on a variety of transportation projects. You will also be involved in a variety of projects which may include transit development plans, transportation needs assessments, transit route planning, financial planning, and transit performance monitoring. The position will require research and data analysis utilizing a variety of sources, including transit ridership data, census, socioeconomic, land use, survey data, and existing plan information.

In addition to having the appropriate technical skills, we are looking for someone who is a smart, motivated, self-starter who is passionate about transit and transportation planning.


Any potential position at Foursquare ITP requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Skills in GIS and data analysis and visualization are also strongly desired for internship postions. We are seeking graduate students in transportation planning, urban planning, GIS, or similar programs, as well as soon-to-be graduates of both graduate programs and undergraduate programs in these fields.
